	Emergency Calls In the case of fire or medical emergency, dial 119, calmly and clearly give the following information In the case of fire The 119 center will say “kaji desu ka kyu kyu desuka” “fire or medical emergency?” reply “kaji desu.” “Fire.” Say the location of the fire. Address/location Say the nature of the fire. House, car, field,etc. “xxx ga moete imasu.” “xxx is burning.” Give a nearby landmark. “On the north side of the elementary school.” Give your name. “watashi no namae wa John Smith desu. Give the number of the phone from which you are calling. “denwa bango wa xxx-xxxx desu.” In the case of a medical emergency. The 119 operator will say “kaji desu ka kyu kyu desu ka” “Fire or Medical emergency?” reply “kyu kyu sha desu.” “medical emergency.” Give the address. Address/location Say the nature of the situation. Ex. “A man in his 50’s has collapsed.” “xx ga xx no joutai desu.” Give a nearby landmark. “On the north side of the elementary school.” Give your name. “watashi no namae wa John Smith desu. Give the number of the phone from which you are calling. “denwa bango wa xxx-xxxx desu.” Dialing 119 connects you with the 119 call center. Please say "xx city" when calling with an emergency. Giving only the local area is sometimes not enough -Please use the ambulance only when urgent. Do not use in place of a taxi. A request when dialing 119 by cellular phone ･Calls to119 by cellular phone are connected directly to the 119 call center. However, there are case where the call is relayed through the cell phone’s carrier and it is possible that the call will not be relayed appropriately. Therefore when dialing by cell phone always give the city name to the 119 call center. ･When the emergency has not occurred within the jurisdiction of the fire department to which the call is placed, the call will be forwarded to the appropriate fire station. So please do not hang up while waiting.I ･If you have come upon an accident while driving, please park in a safe place before contacting 119. ･You will be asked for your telephone number during the emergency call as there are many people who in the panic forget to convery important information. ･Occasionally important information is lost due to being out of range. As much as possible, use a public phone or landline.
